By far my favorite Chinese spot since coming to Durham for school. Most other places have been just okay but I enjoy the consistency as well as the flavor of their food.
I was told about Top's China back in 2008 when I relocated to Durham. Being from Connecticut, and having lived in DC and East Bay area of California, I had my doubts. It was not until 2019, when I went to Compare foods, I decided to check them out. I ordered the shrimp egg foo young, combination platter, that came with an egg roll, and pork fried rice. OMG, this is the best Chinese food, I have eaten, since relocating to Durham in 2008. I am addicted to this Chinese food. It reminds me of Chinese food back in Connecticut. They even have mambo sauce, that they serve with their chicken wings, which is a DC thing. If you want fresh, Chinese food, that is like the Chinese restaurants up north, this is the spot. I swear by it. I can't get enough of it. I plan to eat my way through their entire menu.
If you are looking for Chinese takeout for a reasonable price. This is your spot. I ordered Shrimp and garlic sauce. Great flavor, fresh shrimp and broccoli. I enjoyed it because it was overly done with sauce.
This is pretty much my favorite Chinese takeout in Durham. Definitely give it a try if you want some really unhealthy but downright delicious Chinese takeout. My favorite dish is the orange chicken with pork friend rice. Prices are low. Portions are generous. And the meats are really soaked in the sauce giving you that over the top nasty goodness that only Chinese takeout can provide. Be sure to budget time for the post-meal coma.
A friend and co-worker recommended this place and he was right, this little jewel near Compare Foods is definitely tasty and worth checking out....Didn't go heavy on the salt which is always a plus.....
Greasy Chinese food, a universal guilty pleasure filled with egg roll fields and MSG dreams. If this is your thing, then go to Top's China. Don't let the sketchy Compare Foods plaza scare you away. This place offers many different selections and at a really good price. Even soda's less than $1 there. Unheard of at any restaurant these days. I tried their BBQ spare ribs (kalbi) and they were delicious. They were made to order, so I had to wait for them to cook it, but it was well worth it. It was on their "specials" menu, but I'm crossing my fingers that they have it year round. What's awesome is they kept reapplying the BBQ sauce on the beef, so it was SUPER tasty when I got it. Portions are generous, almost enough for 2 people. Atmosphere is definitely lacking, but for $6.50 a plate, minor details...
